Hello,

I built a ASAP pole and portable hole for my first mega tree this year. However, we just had new sod installed mid-June. My wife is worried about putting the portable hole down on the grass that is only 3-4 months old.

For people that have used the portable hole (or similar) how does the grass do after having such a heavy item on it for ~3 months.

Thanks in advance.

It might kill the grass depending on the grass species, climate, etc... Just mini trees for 3 months (Oct-Dec) killed mine... it's hot, dry, and dark in there. Some other grass grew back in those spots, so good news, it is easy to tell where they go each year without measuring.

I suppose the follow up question would be, do you think it would kill just were the concrete base was or entire diameter of the base (6')

You could always just concrete a sleeve into the ground and just insert the pole into the sleeve. The sleeve is like those you get for a clothes line.

Exactly, and they could also use the irrigation system covers to hide the sleeve in the ground and still be able to mow over the top of it.

Exactly what I did. 800mm length of 50mm ID PVC pipe as a sleeve, fits the NB40 pipe (48mm OD) perfectly.
Green irrigation cap, and mow straight over. Worked a charm for the first 2 years. I've just been to lazy to remove the MT pole recently so it's being mowed around at the moment :-D
