I so agree with David. . NEVER rely on an RCD.
It is a good safety device, but it can fail.
They should be fully tested by your electrician once a year.
Pressing the button is not enough. an electrical test will test the RCD tripping current and the time it takes for it to trip.
I have seen electricians (who should know better) cut through live wires to trip the RCD instead of going to the switchboard
only to have their pliers destroyed because the RCD failed and the circuit breaker tripped.
I must also point out that NO ONE should be working on 240 Volt power unless they are suitably qualified.
Not only are you putting lives at risk, you could also create an electrical fault causing a fire.
If your house burns down and the insurance company finds you are the cause, they will also refuse your insurance.
