Hi all,

I'm planning on using a Pi to run my show using FPP, and I'm just wondering how the setup should look with an FM transmitter (I bought one from EDM design which seemed highly regarded in the auschristmaslighting guide PDF).

Can these be directly connected to the Pi, with the Pi outputting audio to it? Is this how it's normally done?

Tried searching here and the Falcon Christmas forums but couldn't see anything that seemed to answer this.

Yes the simple setup would be to use a 3.5mm plug to RCA splitter cable such as: https://www.ebay.com.au/p/Audio-AUX...er-CAB/2229234572?iid=282675462228&opts=opick
Some people say the audio direct from the Pi isn't the best, so something like this could assist: http://www.smartaleclights.com/shop/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=81

If you want to go advanced, you caould get a little USB mixer which will allow manual volume control and possible EQ. You could then split your audio out to both the FM transmitter and directly to some speakers. I think many just tune into the broadcast however.

Yep, I used the standard output from the Pi for the first year, but it was a pain and was intermittently distorted, then I went to the little usb sound card like the one on smartalec's site.
It was much better!

it says no drivers needed for those sound card on Smartalec's site however if you plug it into the pi it doesn't work, so maybe some sort of driver is needed?

You need to change setting in FPP to enable sound from USB device.

In FPP... in Status/Control select FPP settings, change Audio Output Device to USB (with USB device connected to PI)
