I find it interesting the different terms and names we give to different things. Like you, I used to call them "Switch Craft Barrels" because they were manufactured and branded SC in our sound systems. "XLR" is a generic name, deplete of any manufacturer branding. James Cannon designed them, starting as the "Cannon X" connector. The lock was added when they became the "Cannon XL" connector. XLR came about, if memory serves, when some fancy insulator was added to them.
Does anyone remember the XLP?
