Recommended power supply

Hi I currently use a Ray Wu 12 volt 350 watt power supply http://www.aliexpress.com/snapshot/238405560.html
but want something with more watts to power a matrix. Does anyone currently use something bigger than this that you would recommend?

I use a 12V 600W supply for my mega tree without issue
Its not one of Rays but I'mm tipping it came from the same factory..

Here's a thought ....


2 x 350W power units are cheaper than one 600W supply.


If one of the 350W fails, you only loose half your tree, and the replacement cost is half. Actually, you could buy 3 x 350W and have a spare one for backup, for the price of one 600W unit.


and 2 x 350W gives you 700W, so you have some redundant capacity to cope with voltage drop.

I prefer to use 1 PS where possible as this way it all fits in the one control box, you don't have to worry about crossing supplys etc.

Thats a meanwell Clone for sure

Ive used the Meanwell HRP600-12 power supply for certain jobs which is a very compact power supply for its output and comes with a 5 year warranty as the HRP stands for High Reliabilty Power. But a bit of an overkill for DIY

I'd recommend any of the RSP range from Meanwell. Damn hard to blow up and really reliable. Has proper Power factor correction and good filtering. All important when you get up in teh powers. I have used them from the smallest ones to having 4 RSP-2000's parralleld together. They work really nicely.

Paralleled?! I thought you weren't supposed to let the plus side of one supply connect to the plus of another. Maybe I'm misinterpreting what you did.

I think you will find that the RSP2000 are designed to be able to be paralleled up together as they have additional load sensing circuitry that allows for this.
So some power supplies (like many used for server stations) will have this ability, but for the most part what we use doesnt and is cheaper for that reason.

Yes, I really did mean Paralleled.. This feature is'tn something available on All the RSP power supplies, it only really kicks in at the 1000W + space.


One of the reasons for this, is that if you start thinking about the incoming AC requirements, it gets to a point where they start getting to big to do on single AC feeds.
