So last year I bought a few 5m packs of rgb LED strips, http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/5050-RGB-5M-300-LEDS-SMD-LED-Strip-Light-12V-Waterproof-IR-Controller-/110985421506?pt=AU_Car_Parts_Accessories&hash=item19d73f22c2 and a few from another seller of 30l/meter and now most of the pixels do not turn on. It'll be a segment here n there that have dropped out. The top is fully coated in silicon and stabbing a wire in directly to the led seems to work so I am guessing the tracks get corroded?
Are the silicion tube ones far superior? These ones have silicon on the top but underneath is just 3m sticky stuff.
