I need to replace a Transformer. Original Transformer is Primary 230-240Vac - 50Hz......... Secondary is 24v -650mA 15,6va. My question is can I replace it with a 230-240V ac to Secondary 24V - 2000mA transformer?
I am putting my christmas lights up in the loft ready for next time, and would like to get a replacement before I have everything away, I have found various transformers on the internet.

Hi there, did you ever find a suitable replacement transformer to buy? Could you please let me know where you got it?
Cheers, Mitchell

The original poster has not been back since early 2024 and is unlikely to see this message. They are also based in Germany :)

That being said - what is the transformer you are needing? Have you got any photos of the original?

A similar one to what the OP needed would be this - https://www.wagneronline.com.au/product/power-pack-24vac-1000ma-968925?sku=aca2410a
But obviously it needs to be similar to what you are replacing.
Whatever you buy is unlikely to have the same connector, so you may need to do a bit of joining/soldering of wires.

Hi, thanks for coming back to me. Attached is the wattage and photo of the original transformer. Hard to find with built in socket. Cheers, Mitch

The above transformer I linked would work fine - alternatively, jaycar offer an equivalent (albeit at Jaycar inflated prices) https://www.jaycar.com.au/24vac-1a-unregulated-power-supply-bareends/p/MP3032

You could put on a barrel connector similar to the following:

This would then allow you to connect the existing string to it without cutting off the plug that's there.
Alternatively, you could cut that plug off and just connect the wires (either way around works; it's AC so polarity doesnt matter)
