    Hey all,

So I'm looking to get into pixels in 2013. I'm starting now in January because I'm going to make a pretty big plunge I think. Thinking about 12 wire/stick trees with 300 pixels each and a megatree with 48 strands of 50 pixels. By my math, that is 3600 + 2400 = 6000 pixels, which is 18,000 channels right? The other option I'm still considering is to run the wire/stick trees as dumb RGB which would greatly cut down on my number of channels.

I have been a LOR user since 2005 and I can't seem to find a channel limit in the S3 software. I see that LSP has an 8192 channel limit in the $249 advanced version and you have to go to the $399 version to get more channels. Considering I have a license to S3 already and it seems to have unlimited channels (completely unsure if this is correct), I'm having a tough time with moving to LSP, but it seems like most of y'all really like this software.

I guess if I go with advanced then I am committing to running the wire/stick trees as dumb setups.

    Any guidance is appreciated.

i would look at your maths again as if you have 300 pixels a tree that is 900 channels a tree x 12
and then your mega tree is 48 x 150 channels. so if that is right your talking alot more then 18,000 more like 45,000 if i have my maths right.

I agree, I think I added up right, but let me do it again.

    wire/stick trees: 12 x 300 pixels = 3600 pixels x 3 channels / pixel = 10800 channels
    megatree: 48 strings x 50 pixels = 2400 pixels x 3 channels / pixel = 7200 channels

    10800 + 7200 = 18000 channels total

I guess I was looking for confirmation that I do indeed have to go to the $399 version from a perspective of is it really channel driven or pixel driven etc. If it was pixel driven, then 6000 pixels would be under the limit of the 8192 "channel" version... I think I know where this is going, but just looking for confirmation.

    Thanks!

It is channel driven. You would need the $399 version. You could use grouping on your mini trees to cut down on the amount of channels. But you still would not get under 8192.

The first step is admitting you have a problem the second is curing it...so you are half way to recovery
