Trying to build a very basic first year show and I am beginning to feel the time crunch. I hope to set up a basic roof outline and some smart flood lights. Currently in my possession I have:
  • Raspberry Pi Zero W
  • Micro SD Card
  • Falcon Pi Cap
  • Meanwell 12v power supply
  • Pixel flood light 20 watt (x3)
On my shopping list I have:
  • ~1000 12v pixels
  • Chromatrim
  • pigtails (how many is reasonable to have on hand?)
  • 18/3 Cabling
  • Solder sleeves
  • Enclosure box (any recommendations for my current set up?)
  • Some way to mount my components in the box
  • Pixel tester
  • A second 12v power supply
  • Power injection distribution block
  • Cable glands

Am I missing anything critical? Is there anything here that's not really necessary? Trying to reduce multiple orders and save a little bit on shipping. Many thanks!

think of how you are going to actually wire this up with an eye to volt drop and if you are going to use standard length strings or cut them to suit. either way you will need a pigtail for each end. 3 wire extensions can simplify wiring props together null pixel buffer if you have to go a fair distance to a prop. power injection tee are vital for longer runs. sit down in front of your layout screen and go through how you are going to wire it up. many ways to go about all this ,personally I am a fan of trying to use standard lengths of lights and pre made cables where possible, soldering gets old fast
