Original thread on this forum: https://auschristmaslighting.com/threads/white-led-strobes-pcb-design-and-interest-thread.151/

OK here's a little collaboration between myself and Tabor.

Special thanks to Brad Jones for the original idea, it can be found over at DIYC
http://doityourselfchristmas.com/forums/showthread.php?p=112263#post112263

Tabor and I have chatted about this for days after he asked if i could order some pcb's.
The end result is a new, improved design of the original idea.

What it is, is a White high power LED that has a constant current source and is pulsed on and off by your sequencing software.

The board measures 12.5mm x 19mm and has been designed to fit with the C7 covers Fathead45 cooped.

IMPORTANT CHANGE to LED Info

The following LED's could be used.

8mm x 1W at 5v
or
8mm x 0.5W (recommended) at 5v
or
3 x 3mm 20,000mcd's at 12v

The individual PCB's will be ordered as a panel, the panel will be 8 x 5 for 40 total strobe pcb's

A panel of 40 will be US$5.00 (12.5c each) landed at my door. The panel will be V-scored.

Freight to you will be based on weight and destination.

Please indicate the total number of individual boards you want, i will handle any part panels to get your total.

Example
Phil: 100 pcbs
(i will ship 2 1/2 panels to you)

*********UPDATE*********

OK, so as most of you will know by now, Phil and I have decided to make a few changes to this board to make it more versatile.

What are we doing?
We have included room on the circuit board for a low cost transistor, this will allow the strobes to be "triggered" from a very low current source.

In addition to this we have also made room for a very low cost 6 pin PIC microcontroller on board to handle random strobing of the led.

What does this mean?
With all the components on the board the strobe will be able to be powered from a 5v power supply at all times and then one channel on your controller will start a pseudo random strobe pattern between all boards.
ie one controller channel will randomly strobe alot of boards.

So we have three options:
1. build as a two wire basic channel controlled constant current LED
2. build as a three wire device that has low trigger current from say a buffer driver (2-3mA required)
3. build as 2 or 3 wire plus the addition of a PIC to provide random firing of LED like a real strobe.

Cost of individual boards and number of boards in a panel have not changed

IMPORTANT CHANGE to LED Info

The voltage you can run the board at now is determined by the build option, if you build it as option 3 with the PIC then the Max voltage is 5v
Five volt LED options include
Any single 1w LED, 8mm required if using FH45 covers
or
Any single 0.5W LED (recommended), 8mm required if using FH45 covers

If you don't use the PIC then it is possible to run the board at 12v, options then are
Any single 1w LED, 8mm required if using FH45 covers
or
Any single 0.5W LED (recommended), 8mm required if using FH45 covers
or
three normal 5mm or 3mm 20mA LED's connected in series

Below is an example of how a completed strobe was designed to look. The board is enclosed in the heat shrink.

Re: Bulk Buy - White LED Strobes PCB Only

All

The electronic components require are
One - 1206 resistor - value based on LED current required.
One - NUD4001 SOIC constant current LED driver

LED of your choice
1W
0.5W
or
3/4 5mm

Resistor Values
350mA - 2.0 Ohms
300mA - 2.33 Ohms
200mA - 3.5 Ohms
100mA - 7 Ohms
80mA - 8.75 Ohms
20mA - 35 Ohms

Re: Bulk Buy - White LED Strobes PCB Only

I'm in for 6 panels or 240.

Phil, can we chat at some point about shipping these in bulk to the US and then having a US based person ship individual items? I think this might save on shipping and make it easier for you. I know Matt is sort of doing this with the coop on DIYC.
