Coro Tree Model with Star Topper - Two Models or One?

Just having a play with my extreme lighting display 180 coro trees, I've got the wiring set up, so now its on to having a play in xLights, and build the model for it.

My query is should I be doing a single model for both the vertical strings in the tree and also the star on top, or should I be doing a model for the vertical strings, then a separate model for the star?

My thoughts are that I would like to have the star generally shining either white or with its own sparkle pattern, then have a more geometric patterning on the trees, which I think might work out easier in the scheduling if I can deal with each piece independantly, but is that easier in a single model or in two separate models?

Hope that is me explaining it well enough, I'm just new to the modelling and xLights in general, so happy to be corrected if I'm going about it wrong! :)

Either way can be handled in xLights.
They could be two separate models and as a group. Or One model and sub modelled to two elements.

Awesome, thanks, will have a bit more of a play to see which one feels more natural, at least I'm glad that I haven't been heading up the wrong path by doing a single model so far!! :)

2 models. Add tree model and then also add star model. Your one model will be followed by the other model.

Just jumping in on the set up of the tree, do you daisy chain the 5 rows of 17 (I have a 180 tree from extreme lighting displays) or have to give each 5 sets it's own output then add to a tree group in xLights?
I'm keeping the star separate so I can make it do things independent of the bottom of the tree (if that's correct?)

I put them all together on the weekend and just ran the test cycle in the Advatek program to see how it looks.

I have my coro tree set up as a tree in xlights (like a mini mega tree)
180 degrees, 1 string, 85 nodes, 5 strands/string, the star is a separate model. I think created groups for the entire tree, and a group for just the tree, and a group for just the stars on all the trees..
Then in submodels you can set up vertical and horizontal slices. Just press click to edit, and press generate, and create vertical (5) slices and horizontal (17) or 5 bands or whatever you want really.
Easier if you set up one model, then copy that model for how many trees you have. :)
Hope that helps.

Here is how I wired mine up, I spliced the bottom ends to extend the wiring where it bridges across from one vertical to the next, she runs like a dream.

Ended up doing a single model with all 105 pixels, then created two sub-models within, one for the tree and one for the star. I'm happy with the result on it so far, but it's definitely only early days so far, this is the first thing I have built and modelled! :)

Awesome thank you. I might 'steal' the design you have there ;)
