While spacing is not that required on a drill press having something for spacing is great for alignment also. It's so easy to turn pvc a little and start wandering from the original center line.

That's a good point. I found the best way to resolve this was to put a 'foot' a the end of the conduit that slides along the ground to prevent it from turning. I found a pin or similar through the previous hole slowed things down, plus still allowed for small amounts of cumulative errors in rotation to build up

PVC water pressure pipe, the white stuff, has the following external dimensions
DNExternal minExternal max
(mm)(mm)
1521.221.5
2026.626.9
2533.433.7
3242.142.4

Electrical conduit, the orange stuff is
  • A 20 mm conduit has O.D. 20 mm.
  • A 25 mm conduit has O.D. 25 mm.
  • A 32 mm conduit has O.D. 32 mm.
As pointed out Electrical also comes in Grey
Nominal - External - MD=Medium duty - Wall thickness
1616MD1.6
2020MD1.8
2525MD1.8
3232MD2.1
I would expect that most will be using PVC pressure pipe so doing a jig to suit DN15/20/25

What’s the reasons for pressure pipe over conduit?

Colour....... Electrical conduit is orange... nearly all the easy to buy conduit is just DNxx pressure pipe. though nearly no one calls it that

If your using other conduit, can you give me the outside dimensions please.

I’ve current got the medium duty 25mm grey conduit. Flex is there but, easy fixed by more regular fixing

forgotten about the Grey stuff, I've edited my post for sizes for the record and will now do two different jigs for both types plus i think a universal v-channel jig

Cheers

So it’s purely colour? This is a bit of a thread hijack, at Bunnings prices the 25mm grey conduit is $1.44/m, the 20 PVC is $2.78/m in the 3m length.

wife is wanting me to paint it all roof colour regardless of what I get anyway

Still largely on the topic of a jig for drilling holes, happy to do something for the OP as well.

Grey and orange are electrical have different uses but are the same OD sizes.

Painting it is a good idea anyway :)

Easy way to remember with conduit

Orange - Underground or in Heavy applications, No UV stability

Grey - Medium Duty but UV stable

Its the same with drainage plumbing pvc. The cream stuff for underground, white for above. Lack of uv means they will degrade in the sun.

Well prototype printed and tested
Holes directly drilled with 12mm HSS bit @ 1300rpm
The five sections to the right are 25mm spacing
The 3 left are 50mm
combinations give you up to 250mm spacing in 25mm steps effectively
just waiting on some pins to print, so this was drilled by free hand spacing the holes :)
