Eddy, Its much the same at my place. 1 week is the longest i can leave it in summer. Its not really the cheapest option but could be if you mow over a couple of cables!

If i was worried about running 240V on the roof i would supply it with 24 or 36v and use dc-dc voltage converters to drop it down at the modules/controllers.
For those who dont need pwm.. This would do a sufficient job and they are usually pretty reliable

easiest solution i can think of at the moment is using a piece of glue lined heatshrink or vinyl mastic tape to seal a standard rj45 connector and socket. Only problem is that it will be a pain to remove.
