Hi, is there anyone in Adelaide who can have a look at my v3 falcon controller. I tried to update to the latest version of fpp but couldn't do it. I suspect the sd card reader is faulty as when I inserted it into the reader nothing happened.

Hi Ron,
What size SD Card are you using? Use a 32GB or smaller and see if that works.
Cheers
Geoff

Hi, Geoff, I was using a 16gig card, it worked fine on 1 of my Falcons but would not work with the 2nd one.

Thanks' for the reply,

Ron.

I may be understanding wrong,

Falcon v3 as in Falcon F16/F48 I dont think run FPP but there own firmware, Unless your talking about a picap or something?

also if it is the Falcon, they are web page controlled for GUI access, and you can select the firmware file you have downloaded to update the falcons and it will open and use the file without a SD card being needed

That is not correct for a v3 Falcon. Only the v4's and later support web upgrade.

From the upgrade instructions that ship with the zip file available here:
Code:
Factory Reset (Needed when updating from 2.0x )
1) Save settings to file to reload after update.
2) Power Down
3) Hold in select button (Next to right button).
4) Power up while holding button. The controller should display message stating a reset is occurring.

Replacing bootloader. (These steps are only done once)
1) Place BootloaderUpdater_v1.00.fal on a MicroSD card (32GB or Smaller, formatted Fat32).
2) Place MicroSD card into controller and apply power.
3) The application will be loaded and the screen will prompt to remove sd card and power down then up.
4) Remove SD card.
5) Power Down/up
6) The application will replace bootloader.

Updating Firmware (These steps taken for each firmware update)
1) Place .fl2 file MicroSd card
2) Power Down/Up
3) The firmware will install
4) Remove card when finished and power down/up.
5) Controller will boot

falcon use their own version of firmware for their products not the FPP Software
you would need to download the firmware https://pixelcontroller.com/store/content/9-f16v3-pixel-controller
not FPP ? FPP is in use by other like PI or BBB Boards not the falcon direct pixel controllers
I believe this is just a misunderstanding with the way it has been communicated. As the OP says (quoted below), the same SD card with the firmware has worked in one F16v3, just not the other. This implies the method and files being used is correct, and it's more of a hardware issue.

Ooops sorry my bad, yes trying to update the Falcon, not FFP. We have 2 Falcon v3 boards, tried to update them on the web but could not do it, no idea why. Downloaded the update to an sd card one Falcon updated ok but could not update the other one. Can only guess it's the SD card reader but not 100% sure.
