OK so I've agreed with the Mrs that a pixel node "Merry Xmas" sign will do just nicely in our display.
I've worked out in Excel the spacing of the pixels, but wondering how to span the gaps between letters? I'm working on 60mm gap between each pixel. Is it possible to tell xLights to "miss" some pixels in the string and have these dangling on the back of the sign unused, or is it better to cut the strings up and extend the wires between pixels to spaces needed?

Also, what material would be best to make this sign from? It will be around 40cm high and 3m wide. I was originally thinking 6mm marine ply as it is more rigid than coro, but not sure the nodes themselves will attach to this so well? I'm using these: http://www.scottled.com/e_showproduct.asp?id=184 which have a small lip just below the end of the LED cover looking like they would be better suited for coro or thin material.
