Ray Wu = $30, plus Masters box = $10 = $40 plus say $10 for a couple of small fans (never needed in my experience). I can get 3 done for one HPM.

Plus with the Ray supplies (or Mean Well) you can adjust the voltage slightly where needed.

Looks like its cheaper to import it your self. These guys will be required to have the product tested for Aus standards before selling it.

Just don't like the idea of bear 240V AC wires in a case, is now and then you need to open it while its running to see the lights on the board.

My first year. I purchased a complete kit from http://www.advateklights.com/ in Australia.
However If I was building by hand with 12 lights, I would use HPM 12v 400w power supply like http://www.bunnings.com.au/hpm-12v-400w-garden-transformer-_p7070686, and then run a long line of 12V to the control, and then short lines to the lights. Keeping the transformer away from the control stops it from cooking the control board, and more than likely you will not need vents on the control box.

This transformer is 12V AC not DC, Most garden lights run on AC to curb voltage drop at 12V.
You would need to add a full wave bridge rec, and doing so would leave you with about 10v dc.

Also this looks like a iron core transformer type power supply as apposed to the switch mode power supplies that we all use.
The main reason for the cost would be the fact that it has to be RCM (Regulatory Compliance Mark)approved to be sold in Australia, something most DIYers seem to forget.
We do run a risk useing non approved power supplies as if a fire was started by one of these power supplies, then i wonder what the insurance companies approach would be if they knew a chaep unclassified unapproved power supply was the cause of the fire.
