We are supporting the Salvation Army this year.. THey do a great job at looking after the unrepresented, the unfortuante, and the people who no-one else could be bothered to care about.

An almost finished comet star.. there will be three of these.

18 RGB tubes, DMX512 controlled, 48 channels per tube.. These fixtures consume just 2 universes each. the top of the poll is 6meters.. I'll be attaching guy wires to the pole, just in case the wind gets up too much, and fixing these to some big pegs hammered into the ground.

The DMX for these will be generated from my good friend Ed's DR4.

A few of the elements that will make up the show. 160 strings of RGB pixels, 42 pixels per string

A little fun with the camera

I'll be using 10 of these E16 Ethernet --> Pixel controllers.

Perhaps I've missed a post or two, but the picture of the E16 module has me wondering.

You are using 10 of the E16s, so how do you connect them all to the show computer's Ethernet output? Do you use a 16 port Ethernet switch and then just CAT5 out to each E16?

Almost, i'll be using a Juniper SRX240, which has 16 ports of 10/100/1000 ethernet. This is becasue i had one more than anything else.

I'm hoping that a $2000 part like the Juniper SRX240 isn't required!!!

Is a router required or would a much much much lower cost switch (10/100) work? (did I mention lower cost?)

No, you don't need a router, a firewall, an IPS, a wireless controller and or many other of the parts that are in a SRX240. A $100 switch will probably suffice to a point.

The comet star is up. From the bottom of the tail to the top is 4.5meters tall. This was just playing test patterns, and it looked just crazy playing actual program material.. but sorry folks, you'll just have to wait till Nov 15 to see it. ( i so wanted to show off )
