Circle model and Shockwave effect

I have a pretty standard circle model with multiple concentric circles, and I'm trying to apply a Shockwave effect. But it doesn't appear to be working.
The effect appears to be applied along the length of the string, rather than as circles.
I have an imported snowflake model which works fine.
Is there a trick/setting for Circle models to get this working?

Have you played around with different Render Style options in the Layer Settings window?

Thanks guys, that did it. Layer Settings > Render Style > Per Preview.
I still have quite a bit to learn about this program.
