I ordered a sample string and it appears I got smart strings, I am looking for a positive way to ID dumb strings (pixel type not strips). Since stings are connected with wire between pixels, can't you cut and any point between pixels unlike strips?
The same rules apply as strip, pixel strings will also show a black IC and have a description of being 2801. 6803, 3001 ect or smartstring. Always look closely at the picture to see if there is a black glob on the pixel board which would mean it has an IC, otherwise with no IC there would only be resistors
With strings you can cut at any point down to the individual LED.
If your wanting some dumb strings then there are 2 choices, 12Vdc and 5Vdc. 5Vdc being the correct design but comes in strings of 50 and 12Vdc being very inefficient but suffering less voltage drop and comes in a string of 100.
