I've got the led stips working (15, 30 and 60 per meter). I'm now looking for pixel stings (for some small trees). I ordered a sample string and it appears I got smart strings, I am looking for a positive way to ID dumb strings (pixel type not strips). Since stings are connected with wire between pixels, can't you cut and any point between pixels unlike strips?

The same rules apply as strip, pixel strings will also show a black IC and have a description of being 2801. 6803, 3001 ect or smartstring. Always look closely at the picture to see if there is a black glob on the pixel board which would mean it has an IC, otherwise with no IC there would only be resistors

With strings you can cut at any point down to the individual LED.

If your wanting some dumb strings then there are 2 choices, 12Vdc and 5Vdc. 5Vdc being the correct design but comes in strings of 50 and 12Vdc being very inefficient but suffering less voltage drop and comes in a string of 100.

Are these, as a general rule, a 100mm spacing between the nodes?
Also do you have any good controllers in mind to handle these type of strings for 12V or 5V?
Bill - We (Holidaycoro.com) sell a whole group of DC controllers at prices cheaper than ordering from china. You can find them here:

We also have samples of different RGB items that you can puchase in single quanities:

Thanks,

I am looking to get into some RGB this year, was looking at the posts on this thread and I notice this one being talked about
5Vdc IP68 resin filled RGB DC strings: http://www.aliexpress.com/fm-store/701799/209889132-522237021/IP68-DC5V-input-12mm-through-hole-LED-channel-letter-RGB-color-50pcs-a-string.html

I am guessing that being resin filled and IP68, I would not have to do anymore waterproofing?

That would be correct and is why it is the better choice. You can also get these in resin form with the 2801, 3001 and 6803 pixels.
