well if your getting it into programming mode an you get that error, normaly the txd an rxd lines need swapping around..
otherwise you have to have the unit powered off.. press button an keep pressed while powering up the unit. - that puts it in programming mode.
(I put switchs on my boards to make it easyer for me to program them.)

I don't have the board powered. In the Canispater vid. it says not to have it connected to anything other than the programmer board. Should I have it connected to a power supply? That would be a simple fix if that is the issue! I've tried reversing the Txd and Txd wires, but it changed nothing.

Yep, a blue light flashes on the esp for about half a second when I first plug it into the computer. Nothing after that.

It finally worked! It’s alive! It’s alive!
i don’t know what I did different, but all the sudden it wants to work.
