Good Afternoon Fellow Enthusiasts,

Having squared away this years light show, I'm starting to turn my attention to next year. This hobby bug has seriously bitten me hard! As part of the upgrade / expansion I plan to add a matrix to the garage door for next year, the stipulation of SWMBO is that the door MUST remain functional, so I'm thinking seeds will be the best way top go but thought I'd seek advise from those who have successfully executed a functional roller door matrix.

Cheers
James

Most that I have seen that have done this are on sectional/tilt doors so the matrix can stay in place when the door is used. For a roller, you might need to do some sort of swing gate that opens and closes to hold the matrix? or a matrix on wheels on a frame that can be wheeled in and out when in use🤷‍♂️

I've got one on my sectional garage door that is fixed to the garage panels etc.

Can't really do that with a roller door. One option would be a curtain type installation, that you physically move when needing to access the garage. A bit more manual but will do the job. I've seen some installations that fix to the garage lintel itself, and some where they install on a temporary fencing type arrangement. All depends how often you need to open the garage, and how comfortable your partner/you are in moving it that often.

For the swing gate approach -- (especially with classic pixels that will be heavy) - a few people have used:
and the wheels:

and a bracket/etc -- to mount it - and have a temporary gate that can roll in and out.
