Gday everyone, new to this whole Christmas lights thing. Finally getting away from the Bunnings led’s and looking at going the pixel route.

Welcome to ACL. The 2 wire 2 channel leds that Bunnings and Big W etc are selling these days are evil. They work fine but you need something like my DMX2-18 to control them and they just don't have quite the same effect as pixels. I still use the same style leds and even added more this year. My display is pretty eclectic because I still light the tradition icicle and fairy light look although I have a few thousand pixels mixed in.

Don't throw the Bunnings leds away yet. As AAH says, his DMX2-18 boards are an excellent way to use them in a computer-controlled show.

If changing to a pixel display my 2811DC2-30 is also capable of driving the 2 wire 2 channel leds at a lower cost per channel than dmx.

Don’t the 2 wire led’s run on about 32v ?
They do run on 30-32V for "most". The 2811DC2-30 uses 5V WS2811 logic to control the 2 wire 2 channel output. As more people are transitioning to pixels and pixel controllers I made up the 2811DC2-30 so that the 2 wire strings could be implemented pretty easily into pixel displays. There's essentially no smarts on the boards compared to DMX control so the cost per channel works out lower.
