I think you're right but I think it's enabled by default, and I actually think bdt's issue is that he can't connect to the web interface of the device.AAH said:I vaguely recall there is an option to enable E1.31.

I would be ruling out any firewall issues - unlikely, but I've certainly seen firewalls behave badly before.. Do you have any other devices that work okay (in which case you could rule the firewall out, as that would affect all devices)
Also, I would try another IP address (preferably outside your DHCP range), just in case - I've had wierd issues before when IP addresses have clashed
