An additional thought...
Rather than 'gutting' them, if you have not yet started that path, I would find somewhere to use them until they stop working for their own reason. At least at that point you would obtain some economical use of sorts even though they may not exactly fit into your display. An alternative to internal replacement is this link. Same basic power range, for the most part, drop in and go.
