Nothing quite like a knock at the door late at night to tell you your lights are on fire. Here’s the aftermath of what was a mini tree. 12v pixels only running at 40% brightness. Pretty sure these were a batch bought during COVID. Looks like I’m checking the rest tomorrow in the light.
Wow this is scary but lucky at the same time...What will you be checking for? are there signs to be aware of?
I should be able to salvage one arch, and I'm lucky the tree it was right next to didn't go up.
Likely cracked epoxy, and water ingress. That's usually what causes it.
It's 100% a cheap batch of pixels bought during covid. I have had 2 previous failures where a pixel or two burnt out. Minor damage which in hindsight should have been a red flag to remove the whole batch. But pixels are not cheap, and they have been working for 3-4 yrs so just replaced the failed pixels. So now it's time to replace them all before something else burns to the ground. The joys of the hobby. LOL
