I only learnt this year because I had to build a Mega Tree, brought myself a little MIG Welder,

Not that hard if I can do it,

Obviously, you haven't met me. LOL
Half my problem is I am using a 30 something year old stick welder........

I was lucky that the people up the road were giving away a basketball ring (one with the water base to stabilize it). I am going to attach my flat mega tree to that.

I was thinking the same thing, but maybe a Netball post? Do you think something like this might be strong enough for 180' tree?

Guess its going to depend on the weight of your tree. Mine is light so the ring should hold the weight, once I fill the base with water.

I'd still suggest adding some guy wire/ropes for added stability, particularly if any wind pops up during the season.

What did you use to get such a good hole? Whenever I have to dig anything, I can usually fit a body into it.

petrol powered post hole digger. My bro in law did it while i was at work.

I used a piece of PVC waste pipe as a sleeve, then concreted it in place. My pole is a NB50 pipe about 3mm thick. 4M high with no guide wires. The base ring is high enough off the ground so I can get the lawn mower under the tree.
