Hi everyone,

I’m thrilled to join this awesome community and dive back into the world of Christmas lighting! My family and I had a small display a few years ago, but we took a break for a while. Now we’re ready to get back into it—and wow, things sure have changed over the past five years!

I’m brand new to xLights and pixel lighting. Hubby set up our last display and has some knowledge, but he’s not able to help much this time—so I’m here to learn, get inspired, and soak up all the wisdom from you experts.

My Current Setup:

  • 16-strand Mega Tree
  • 2 x 6-strand Mini Trees
  • A mix of 5v and 12v RGB and pixel lights
  • Strips, bullets, and a few Raspberry Pis
  • A Falcon board
  • Conversion boards from Allen Hanson (to run dumb lights)
  • And even an old LOR 240v controller tucked away in the shed!

My next challenge is figuring out how to get all of this talking to each other and installed on a two-story brick and weatherboard house.

Looking forward to learning heaps and sharing progress along the way.

Cheers,

Hi @Tribeof7 and sending you a warm welcome to ACL. Where abouts is your display located? It's always exciting when I see another lady join the community. You got this!
It sounds like you have a great display there. If I can help putting it all together in any way, please reach out. No question is too silly.

Hello @Zuseleets

Nice to meet you.
Our display will be located in Coffs Harbour, NSW.

I don't know if I will have a new display built in time for this year, but definately aiming for Christmas 2026.

I'm currently trying to figure out the best way to mount my lights to the frame of my house and if I want to change over to seed or flat strips.

I'm up in Townsville, QLD, so a little too far to drive around the corner and help you out in person, unfortunately.

My house outline is all strip lights which are ziptied to conduit. We attach them to the house by snapping them into metal conduit saddles that are screwed onto the house and face outwards if that makes sense.
I guess it all depends if you want to drill into your house or not. Others may suggest something different for you.

I'm trying out seeds this year, but not going crazy with them. I'm only using them in my angel wings by replacing the failed outline strip with seeds.

I do have a bunch more of seeds. I just don't know what to do with them yet.
