I believe that each 5050 LED has R G and B in the same housing, and that there are 36 LEDs/meter.

So there's 36 RGB pixels per meter or 180 per 5 meter strip.

You can cut the strip every 3 LEDs, so you can get 48 or 51 pixels, not 50, with the strip.

Using the individual pixels, you can get however many you want on a string. Ray should be able to quote you a price for 50 per string. These pixels are about 4 inches apart, but I wouldn't want to stretch the string too much or you'll have to waterproof the pixels better than they come from the factory.

Yes, that's 180 RGB channels per 5m arch, which translates into 540 (3 x 180) actual pixel controller channels. My thought on arches, if I were going to do RGB arches, would be to use the dumb RGB pixel strips in segments. That way, if I use 8 segments per arch, there's only 24 channels to sequence, rather than 540.

And the "dumb" or non-intelligent strips don't cost as much either....

The LED count is NOT per R, G or B LED. It's a single LED module, with 3 LEDs in each module. But there are 36 modules per meter in this strip.

This is how many strips are designed. 3 modules per segment, which are usually 100 mm long. There are 10 of these segments in a regular strip which gives you 30 LED per meter.

In the case of the WS2801 strip, it looks like there are 12 segments per meter, but there's still 3 RGB LED modules per segment.

I would confirm this with Ray as it may be a typo, normally the strips come in 10 controllable pixels per metre, so the 12 segments may be incorrect. I would definetly check this before purchasing this strip.

the 6803 strip I have is 3 * 5050's per segment and 30/M

The fact that there are 2 different pictures, one showing 2 x 5050 LEDs and the other with 3 x 5050 LEDs per segment has me cautious. The other thing to note is that the strip is rated at 12vdc which ussually means it is 3 x 5050 LEDs per segment.
As I said best to check with Ray before you purchase, if anyone finds out then can they confirm this.

I have some of this 2801, 12v strip from another vendor. Here are the specs:

* In/out plugs on each end of the strip (one for power another for signal)
* Encased in a boot and silicone injection
* 12v input power
* 2801 pixel chip
* Each "section" or pixel is 3.27 inches or 83mm in length
* There 60 indvidually controlled pixels
* There are three 5050 LEDs per pixel
* 36 5050 LED's per meter
* 180 channels per length
* 195 inches / 4.95m overall length (excluding the lead-in/out)

Please people....don't buy 6803 anything - it's just junk.

When I first read this description, I had to scratch my head and think about it before I realized exactly how this works.

Theres only one 2801 chip for each group of 3 pixels.

There are 12 groups of 3 pixels per meter, and obviously with 5 meters, there's 60 groups that can be controlled.

60 groups x 3 colors (RGB) => 180 channels in Vixen or LSP or LOR (via iDMX).

Makes sense now...
