Rebuild failed error

    Hey guys,


    I am at near completetion of my 2014 program when I went to save it and it wouldn't save. It came up with something able unable to save effect channel.........


    When I closed it and tried to reopen my latest save program I got ' rebuild failed on christmas_2014_EFFECT, isam_err=37, sysiocod=112.


    I closed the program and reopened it in administrator and then tried to open a known good previously save file. It's is it required rebuilding effects which I excepted. It rebuilt effects and opened up. However all the programming I did (which was nearly complete) was all missing.


    When I scrolled along the song time line looking at a channel I then received this error,


    Paint E Guid not found
    Let joe know what effect action you did just prior to this message.
    Roof line 4 - #_0001- time tic 8576


    I was wondering is there hope for me retrieving my program somehow? And how do I do this.

    Try going into windows explorer and renaming your .hls file to a .bak file. Then rename one of your latest backup files to .hls vs .hls1. This should make your backup file the one that HLS is looking for. Hope that helps.

    Sorry, not too clear, rename your current file to (your file name) .hls to (your file name) .bak then find your latest backup which is a .hls1 file to what (your file name) deleting all of the numbers behind it and change the attribute from .hls1 to .hls. Hope that's clear enough

    Hello,
    Thanks for your reply. Last night I tried changing a known good saved file and changed the attribute to .hls but I didn't change the original to a .bat. It didn't work anyway however what does the .bat part do to make it work. I just don't understand that part. Cheers

    So I change original to a .bak attribute and a know good save to .hls but when I open HLS program in administrator and open this file I'm still getting the error


    Rebuild Failed on christmas 2014_effect, isam_err=496, sysiocod=112


    Where do I go from here?


    I thought my version of HLS which is version 14.U was corrupt so I tried and opened up last years sequence and this opened up no worries! So I thought I can count the program out?


    Thinking back about what I was doing just before I had these issues and I just added an effect group into the library and tried to save it. However since we are trying to open a file prior to this problem and it's still not opening I'm completely lost and worried all my hard work in sequencing is gone.


    Fingers crossed I can get a happy result!

    Problem Found!
    Lack of storage on hard drive. When i saved my program it only saved half and when i reopened it up along came all the errors.
    Over the course of programming i now realise what joe means now by clean up weekly under the file heading.
    Anyway thanks for your help.

    The reason that I chose .bak was just to mark it so I could remember that that one was the one I was having trouble. You could have don .bad or anything else. I have had the same problem with HLS, it dose not tell you that the disk is full and will only save a portion of your new file. HLS makes a backup file every time you save so your disk can fill up quick if you save a lot (which you should do). You are working with a very old version of HLS, I would suggest you download the newest version, there have been a lot of changes (for the better). I'm glad you found the problem, I've been there and have had the same sinking feeling that you had of loosing a lot of work.

    Yes, it's a terrible feeling especially when I was 99% complete and was just cleaning up a few thing.


    If I up grade to the new version will I have issues with my sequence opening in a new version etc? Or is everything good?


    Off the top of your head do you know what the extra things are with this newer version versus the one I'm using?

    There have been only one upgrade that had issues and that was a long time ago. You shouldn't have any problem upgrading.

    Habbosrus, that's a lot of extra upgrades! It will take a week just to read it all!

    Rebuild fails when you are not running HLS in Admin mode and a rebuild needs to be accomplish.

    XP --- User -- ADMIN.

    Win7 -- USER --- ADMIN --- AND Right Click on HLS icon - select "Run as Admin".

    We can thank Microsoft for security requirement.
