Reject Shop Solar Balls

Was in a reject shop today, and they had the Solar balls on shelf.... well they did. Still $2.00, get them while you can they are a seasonal item.

I got another 6 the other day. Those 42mm RGB pixels fit straight onto the existing screw mounts.

They usually sell them every year for a short period, they are defs not a year-round item. Spring is your best chance, but they ahve been known to pop up at other times of the year. Getting pixel nodes to sit nicely in the centre could be fiddly. The 42mm modules sit in the base and illuminate the ball quite evenly.

If you get the right led module you don't even need the disc, it fits straight onto the existing screw holes

The rings are nice, but they are bright enough with one pixel. I use the single pixel with milk cover inside the ball. I found I get hot spots otherwise.

Ended up doing about 50 last year and they held up great. Only issue I had was that I needed to run them at about 50-60% brightness compared to the 20% used for the rest of the display.
