Morning all, I have scrolled through the forums and I’m undecided on what to do. Our house is a low set Queenslander about 1m off the ground so quite high when standing out front. Approx a 23m run in total

I was initially considering using strip to run bullet pixels along the front of fascia(how I haven’t figured out yet) but now I’m looking at the c9s for ease of install and leave semi permanent. Just hoping to get other experiences people have had on either direction.

TIA

Any pixels left permanently mounted are going to fade in the sunlight.
My C9's have faded very yellow and they are only up mid November to December. I wouldn't recommend C9's to be left outside long-term.

Strip, pucks, bullets or some other low-profile pixels would be good under eves. Out of direct sunlight and less visible during the day.

I'm looking at exactly the same in the new year, due to the height of our roof - I only want to do this once with a cherry picker.

I like the idea of https://auschristmaslighting.com/threads/strip-installation-on-roof-eaves.16187/#post-140149 mounting under the eaves with a good quality YPS pixel light from https://www.inkcreations.com.au/

Def have to be back tho against the house out of the sun, for any chance of longevity. So far the trunking for me, is at the top of the list for a cleanish look.

Out of the pixels in my display, the ones that seem to last the best in the sun are the black nodes. Black wire doesn't seem to fade like coloured wire but the drawback is that it's harder to tell which wire is which. The oldest ones that I have are from benbrown. Ray Wu appears to sell the same thing and I have some from him that are also lasting well: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005009115351914.html

If you contact Ray Wu directly, he'll let you customise the:
  • number of pixels per string
  • type of connector on each end
  • spacing between pixels but this is only approximate
  • wire colour
  • voltage
  • wire thickness
Pixel nodes with clear casing turn brown in the sun but continue working. The tip of the pixel where light is emitted doesn't discolour so the light output isn't noticeably affected. I pack mine away each year so I can't comment on permanent installation.

In second place would be WS2811 strip in silicone tubing: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005008322194446.html
This doesn't seem to deteriorate in the sun but strip is generally less reliable than nodes. All of my strips are from Ray Wu so I can't comment on other sellers. The 12V WS2811 strip seems to be more reliable than 5V WS2812B strip but less reliable than nodes. Double check that the ends are sealed properly with silicone glue. When using silicone glue, use neutral cure. Avoid the really cheap silicone glue as this also discolours in the sun.

The pixel stars in this thread show you what pixel nodes look like after years in the weather: https://auschristmaslighting.com/threads/13868

I use C9's one house outline. Takes a manlift to install, close to 10m on some. C9's seem to be good for 3+ seasons here in California, then the bulbs start falling off. Going to start popping off every C9 bulb and putting some silicone on them. Everything works, just the fact the base of C9 that holds the bulb is brittle and crumbling to pieces. Highly recommend C9's for house outline, but can't recommend a long term permanent install. None of this stuff is meant to be up all year
