This is a list of IP ratings (Ingress Protection) for quick reference.

First number
  1. Protection against > 50mm object size such as whole hand, Ball etc
  2. Protection against >12.5mm object size such as fingers or smaller
  3. Protection against > 2.5mm objects such as tools or thick wire
  4. Protection against >1mm objects like screws, nails etc
  5. Protection against Dust, BUT may not entirely be prevented. Can not cause sufficient interference to the operation of equipment
  6. Protection against Dust- full protection , dust tight
Second Number
  1. Protection from dripping water
  2. Protection from dripping water at an angle of 15 degrees from its normal position
  3. Protection from spraying water at any angle up to 60 degrees from the vertical
  4. Protection from splashing water at any angle
  5. Protection from water jets (6.3mm nozzle) at any angle
  6. Protection from powerful water jets (12.5mm nozzle) at any angle
  7. Protection from non continuous immersion up to 1m
  8. Protection from continuous immersion beyond 1m -depth specified by manufacturer

Please be aware that some of the stuff coming out of China do falsely claim that is a certain IP rating such as IP67. Check them out first before using.
