Hi everyone,

It is with great pleasure that I announce the Sydney Mini for 2025. Many thanks to the organising committee who have been working hard to bring you a weekend filled with interesting topics based on the feedback given in the survey that went out a few weeks back.

As per previous years we are truely grateful that Woolworths is being amazingly generous and letting us use their space again. The address is 1 Woolworths Way, Bella Vista, 2153. This is a corporate office and as we are visitors there, the policy is that we are required to supply full names, email addresses & phone numbers of all attendees to their security office - for both security and fire roll calls.

The cost for the event will be $50. The entry fee covers lunches and morning tea for both days, afternoon tea on Saturday bottomless coffee and misc drinks.

Below is our agenda for the two days. A special call out that for beginners - we are holding a special round table (with flow over some advanced topics) to go through End-To-End how to get your first light show running.
Also a call out to everyone to bring something interesting for Show and Tell - there will be an area set up where you can plug in your creations, and as a group we can have a walk around and talk about them.

As you can see, there are a couple topics that have TBA against presenter - we are actively looking for people to volunteer for these topics.
  • My First Year - Anyone who has done a display for the first time in 2024, we want to hear about your experience
  • Sequencing Tips - Round Table
  • Making your Display Australian
There are also a couple of spare slots for round tables too - so please stick your hand up if you have a topic you'd like to talk about and share with the group. We are more than happy to accommodate.

We also will be having a group dinner on Saturday Night - likely at our usual stomping ground - the Ettamogah Pub in Kellyville Ridge. We will reach out to confirm those details as part of registration.

Metro stations marked in red - Norwest in the middle, and Bella Vista in the top left.
Woolworths (mini venue) marked in Blue
Accommodation marked in green. The majority will be at the Rydges on the right, and I am aware that some have booked Quest (at the bottom)

Google suggests it's around half hour walk from the station to the venue. (2.4km, a bit hilly)

Edit: It has been noted that the Rydges is no longer Rydges. It's called the "Visy Dior Hotel" as of the 3rd of April!

Hi all,

The cost has been set at $50 for the event for both days. I have updated the original post. We've also had a volunteer for the 'my first year' session, which is fantastic. There are still two more sessions that we need covering (or if you can come up with any other topic, please get in touch).

For those that have registered above, I will get in direct contact shortly to gather full details (Name/Email Address/Number) and also to give you the payment details via Paypal Friends & Family.

Definitely looking forward to seeing everyone here in 2025.
Please also spread the word to your blinky colleagues, both seasoned and new. We would love to see you there.

Cheers
Mike

Confirming attendance.

My partner is coming too - but only on Sunday to Woolies.

We're booked in the Norwest Rydges / Visy Dior.

If you're still looking for presenters I can do a little history lesson of what the Synchronized Xmas Lights looked like 20 years ago.

4ch incandescent strings + MS-DOS + parallel port controller built on protoboard !

This hobby has evolved....a lot!

This could be something interesting in the "show and tell" section, especially if you could bring one of the old boards along (assuming it still exists!)

Just noticed there's a band playing at The Ettamogah on the Saturday night. Royale With Cheese. They look pretty good, but the place will be packed. Do we still want to go there, or find another venue?

Unfortunately I can't attend this year, I'll be exhibiting at Brickbuilt Sydney on that weekend. Would've liked to catch up with everyone again and see what everyone is up to this year.

I'm a no to attend this year. Things may change very last minute but it's unlikely.
This weekend I'll enable free shipping for pickup at the mini and that'll run until the Monday morning before the mini at which time I'll post any orders there.
At the same time I'll send up a bunch of goodies as door prizes. No idea yet what but it'll likely be a Baldrick, some power distro boards and who knows what else.
