Holes in PSU

Hey all.

I have an 'S-200-5' PSU in my Baldrick 8 kit from Hanson Electronics, and I'm looking for better ways to mount the board.

My pigtails don't quite reach the far ports from where it came, so I'm thinking...

How unsafe would it be to chuck a few screws in the holes in the enclosure?

Or would this let the magic smoke out?

My cheap butt thought it would be better to get the shorter pigtails, which I just found don't reach to the far ports of the controller.

Its currently laid out down the length of the box, so some ports are closer than others, but I was wondering if there was any way to mount the baldrick ontop of the PSU, using the cooling holes as bracket mounts.

there are no current holes in the PSU for mounting.

The one on thinggiverse should fit as it has slots for the screws on the side to line up with the screw holes but I am not sure the mount holes for the board are the same as the baldrick

actually, I just checked, due to the staggered holes on the side, it wouldn't work anyway.

I'll just buy some longer pigtails...

Watch the depth of the screws into any holes.
I had an issue where a screw was too long, and was touching a heatsink inside the PSU.
Due to the way the transistors were mounted to the HS (and not isolated), this meant the entire case became connected with the 24V line.
In itself, not an issue for the PSU, except that then running a "positive ground" with the blinky stuff caused all sorts of issues with flickering etc.

Found it out when I attempted to connect the negative PSU output to ground, and shorted 24V and 50A. That was a big bang (of course I did it when it was switched on) - left a nice burn mark on the PSU, and a new set of underwear for myself.
I had used a 10mm long screw, when a 6mm would have been clear.

EESH!!

...I'll just suck up the $20 for a new set of long pigtails.

(I need an excuse to buy more pixels anyway)

Good idea. When I started I cheaper out to save a couple of $ on shorter pigtails. Ive since replaced all of them with longer ones as they are much more versatile. Sometimes it pays to spend a little more up front in the long run.
And yeah, id be staying well away from adding screws not meant for mounting a PSU.

When I bought my first pixels, I also bought 5 foot extensions. Cut them in half, plugged on side into the controller and soldered the other on the pixels (this was before built-in connectors were popular). The 2.5 foot pigtails worked out well for me.

My first controllers were made with 1m/3' pigtails. Very useful. Later ones with 30cm/10" ones look stumpy and are a bit annoying to use. They are OK on the small dumb receivers I have though.
