How I made a seed pixel mega tree

How I made my seed pixel mega tree. I chose to use seed pixels because they are cheaper and light weight compared to standard bullet node 5v pixels everyone else is using.
This is fantastic. Do you have a couple close-ups of how they strings are tethered to the top and the bottom?

I zip tied a little loop of elastic banding to the bottom of each strand. The elastic then goes around a hook on the base ring.

Hi Mark, thanks for the video and information. I'm interested in some details of your junction box. Is this something you made or something you purchased.

The junction boxes at the bottom of cheap DETA electrical conduit boxes from Bunnings (a Hardware store in AU/NZ). I used end caps and PG7 glands for the power/data in. The centre has a larger gland with 5 pig tails coming out.
The pig tails are very cheap ones off AliExpress.
I used 4-pin connectors for the lights. Inside each junction box the pig tails data-in/out is connected between strand connectors.

Thanks for the explanation. It really looks cool. Because of your video and review of the seed pixels I'm looking at using them for some new drive thru arches. One issue I have is how to power all the different arches without needing to add multiple controllers.

Alternate nodes does certainly help with powering strings of pixels.
Drive through arches can be modelled as a 2D matrix and alternate nodes selected.
It depends on how many pixels per port you want to use before adding another controller... My entire show ran off one F48v3, 2022 is about 4,300 pixels total. The v3 can handle 16,384 so I have plenty of room to expand!

Hi Mark

Do you have a list of hardware you used to make your tree?
Like Powersupply, and what controllers? and Seed pixels.
I would really like to make one similar to yours...
Cheers

I haven't got a list of items.... I generally use whatever I've got.
There's some photos of inside the box from the main thread on this.

It's changed since the videos. Now my controller box is behind a singing snowman, cables have changed, and I'm using a Falcon F16v4 now.

I strung the seeds without wire support. That's vaguely been okay since they're doubled over (alternate nodes) and the first production runs seemed to be slightly thicker wire than now days.
I'd suggest fishing line or thin braided stainless steel wire to take the tension of each string and the seed pixels cables tied to the wire.

Poles I had... One a netball hoop a neighbour threw out, second pole is from my old garage door motor assembly. The final pole holding the star is from a thrown out trampoline (net poles).
Base ring is an old outdoor dinning table frame, topper is a frying pan.
Doesn't get more DIY than that lol.

It's a mess of using whatever I've got or could find.
That's me... Being cheap 😂
