Welding Mega-Tree Topper

I am hoping somebody in the general area of Brisbane will be able to help me with welding a piece of 300mm pipe to my Tree Topper.

I may also need to have a section of either Square Tube or Lower Thickness Pipe welded to the Top-Side of the Tree Topper for easy Mounting of the Tree Star.

The Tree Topper has a thickness of 6mm and the Pipe is 4.5mm thickness. The Square Tube or Lower Thickness Pipe will most likely be about 2mm thick.

Is anybody able to assist?

Don't bother welding, use one of these. I've been using it for a few years and works great. A few bolts and you're done.
It makes a huge difference to weight as you can put the pole up and then lift the topper in place. It's very hard to lift a pole and topper in place in one go.

I've got a very similar topper, I just drilled and bolted 2 short pieces of angle iron to it, then drilled a hole through all of that with the main pipe in place, for the star on top of the topper I drilled a few more holes to bolt another bracket that sits on top
 
Hey Guys, im in Sydney, i need a mega tree topper, where can i purchase one from locally ? Or is it only Mattos that sells them ?

So https://piptree-designs-108285.square.site/product/Mega-Tree/57 is the usual go-to in Australia -- but I believe @BooY has said that he won't be able to do up any more before Christmas.

You might be able to find a local meta place to do something for you... Or could look at a seed pixel tree (that could need a lighter weight topper and something easier to DIY). Otherwise may need to look overseas.

Depending on how you construct your tree there are a few options as @thewanderingpine mentions. For seed pixel trees, something lightweight like frying pans have been previously used.
I'd start away from other materials like plastic etc as they just don't have the strength. Don't even think about 3D printing one.

Alternatively you could go to your local metal fabrication shop with an idea of what you want and they might be able to cut it for you from a sheet of steel. You'll want something in the order of 6-8mm though for strength. No idea in what they'd charge for the privilege though.

Thanks for that, i already had the tree up last year, 16 strands, round 3m tall and i made the topper myself out of plywood, it barely lasted the season and was completely mangled but end of Christmas. I think yourself and @thewanderingpine are right, local metal fab shop might have the be the go
 
I guess it all depends on how you construct your tree.

My first tree I made my own topper, and still use it to this day.
The tree consists of a concrete base which is mounted on 32mm Galvanised Pipe found at Bunnings in the plubming section, and the topper is attached using a 32mm Flange also found at Bunnings.

For the topper, do a search on ebay for "steel disk" and select the best one suited. From memory I think I chose a 300mm diameter 5mm thick one.
Depending on your tree needs, you may need to play around a bit with size.
  • For a 16 string tree the 300mm one is fine
  • For a 32 string tree 400 to 450 would be better to fit all the strips.
Do a google search on how to find the centre point on a circle, and how to equally divide the circle in 16 or 32 sections.

The hardest part was to drill the 16 or 32 holes as I only had a crappy hand held battery operated drill.
 
So, here is a DXF/F3D file of a mega tree topper I drew up, that is similar common to designs - its setup for a 40NB pipe and you should be able to get it cut from 6mm steel for about $100 at any of the online laser cut shops

- 490mm diameter
- 64 holes @ 470mm diameter
- 48 holes @ 370mm diameter
- 6.5mm holes which support M6 hardware
- 60mm Centre hole - this allows you to weld a 50NB pipe in, to slide over a 40NB pole if you are using a winch

- 8x 12mmx50mm slots for utilities
- 8x 50mm holes for utilities
