101 third edition feedback

Hi guys. I've just downloaded the 101 third edition and had a quick browse through it.
All I can say is WOW !
What a great job you guys have done - thank you so much for the update.
As a newbie - especially the pixel world, I have found this to be very helpful and is written in a way that I can understand.
Thanks again - with a big pat on the back to those involved. Well done.

A few days after release and over 200 people have already grabbed their copy of the updated 101 - wow!

I'd like to again thank everyone who has helped out with this update in one way or another, whether as a proofreader, reviewer, coeditor, or provider of certain images or other source material. These people include @AAH, @OzAz, @Benslights, @ChristmasInKaralee and a handful of others who wish to remain anonymous. To everyone involved, it is a big thanks from me! :thumbsup::D
 
Having a look through the 101 Manual, and thought that the definitions section might be a little more complete if the power equations were included also. I think they would fit well if the definition of the watt was moved to after the ohms law introduction, then the power equations could live right after the definition of the watt.

I should say though that it looks like a lot of effort has gone into the 101 manual, and it looks like it will be very useful.
 
Six years since the last update; is there a page anywhere alerting noobs to what's changed in that time?

May not be what you're looking for, but I found https://auschristmaslighting.com/threads/2023-journey-first-display-for-johnnyboy.15380/ to be a great journal of a recent display.

The 101 still has a lot of good, relevant stuff, though it was never really the best "getting started guide" and anything related to makes and models is obsolete (but just check the vendor web pages).

It's kinda being worked on in the background. Ryan has been doing a bit, I've gone through and added bits and pieces. There's a few others that were in on the revision but I don't know if anyone else has chipped in so far. The last couple of revisions were done mostly between Ryan and myself and this time the decision was made to do it as a shared online project with the current version of M$ Word. Ryan has upgraded, I haven't. I can do it via the online collab thing but it's been a bit of a learning process.
It's been a struggle to find the spare time. I have a bunch of user manuals to update (and create), update my catalogue and website, I have a number of projects still on the go and I am spending an inordinate amount of time helping out with my invalid parents.
 
To lighten (hahah) the workload, would there be an appetite to setup a live document instead?

Maybe transfer the current one into a GitHub repo, meaning people can just continuously contribute?

You'd then set that to auto build the user manual as a website automatically. You'd just need a set of maintainers then who know what they're doing in the lighting world to 'approve' edits.

There'd be surely enough of us software devs lurking in the forum to help set it up fairly quickly
 
The problem with such an option is that in it's current form it's a word document. Storing the binary data with history through git commits won't work particularly well.

As it stands, it's shared out of a OneDrive so that we can jointly modify it with history and comments etc.
But obviously as a larger group thing and approvers for release/acceptance is a little difficult.
