@David_AVD is a genius and very helpful.

Was looking for some small 12V spot/floods for Halloween props and David suggested something like these: 10W 12V RGB I got the black ones so they wouldn't stand out as much at night.

David also put me on to his post about these on his site.

Basically, they have very bad colour mixing, I think the ones I got are even worse, as instead of 1 large LED mine have 9 small ones, 3 of each colour. So even single colour has bad effect.

David's fix was to "Cut a 60mm circle of baking paper and drop it over the PCB" so I did the same.
The pictures attached show output of lights with original on right and modified on left.
You do lose some brightness with this modification, but the quality of the light is much better.

Pictures show:
  1. White (believe it or not) (original on right and modified on left)
  2. Green (original on right and modified on left)
  3. Inside of 10W 12V RGB Spot/Flood showing 9 LEDs
  4. Red after modification (just 1 light)

Sure seems to have helped with the diffusion!

Such a simple fix... amazing!

Thank you for sharing.

With the diffusion material there's a trade-off between loss of light and being diffused enough.

I would like to try some lighting gel diffusion material at some stage.

It's a lightly frosted plastic sheet that diffuses the light.

Often sold in 21" x 48" sheets for way more than I want to spend.
