That's good to hear.

How about the June date (13/14)? Is that a possibility or can we rule it out?

Dave

OK, here's a summary of the comments so far:
? means probably
- means probably not

May May May June
ACL member2/3 9/10 16/17 13/14

karobNo?Preferred?
mellowcoupleYesYesNoYes
pipersmall- - - Yes
adskiYes Yes Pref NOT Yes
darylcYes Preferred Yes Yes
boof63- - - Yes
i13? ? ? ?
elninoYes Yes Pref NOT Yes
smartalec? ? ? ?

So here are a few interesting observations:
- 9 people commented, 10 people voted
- June 13/14 got the most votes and the least rejections (zero)
- we have a venue for June 13/14 - thanks elnino

BUT:
- we have ONLY 10 people who have shown any interest so far - a bit light on (pun intended)
- nobody has volunteered to organise it yet
- we've had only one (indirect) offer to present a topic (Madrix)
- we haven't even had any suggestions for other topics

SO: I'll kick off with a few suggestions:
- Basics of synchronised light shows (if we have any beginners register)
- Summary of popular lights currently available
- Summary of popular controllers currently available
- Summary of popular software - philosophy, features, target audience
- Demonstration of latest releases - new features (hardware and software)
- Audio editing - create your custom mix
- Networking - E1.31
- Powering and fusing
- Sources of lights, software, materials, components etc.
- Resources - 101 manual, forums, wikis
- DIY construction workshop - electronics, soldering, lighting props etc.
- Sequencer software workshops

A few random specifics:
- LOR
- LSP
- Vixen 3
- Xlights 4
- HLS
- Madrix
- Glediator
- Pixel controllers - j1sys, Sandevices, Pixlite, DIYLedExpress
- Pixel extender / null pixels
- DC controllers, Hanson Electronics, AVD, Ray Wu, Renard
- Raspberry Pi as a show player

So, over to you - we need some serious interest and discussion or nothing may happen :(

(Edit: updated info)

Dave I can make any of those dates except the 16th-17th of May.
I would like to see some stuff on lip sync on vixen 3, may even be able to help if I get it worked out before then.

Ron.

If looking for HLS info, I can supply some.
(no expert but it's what I use)
Cheers Boof

I am happy to present some stuff.

I have plenty of knowledge on E1.31, Arduino, electronics and 'doing it cheap'

I done my display in Vixen 3 last year and learnt that from scratch so I can pretend to know some about that too.

My day job is a network engineer so all the networking stuff I can help with :)

My intention this year is to use FPP - Something of which I know almost nothing about. Either I'll learn it by then and be able to present something or someone else can volunteer.

Edit: I'm not opposed to coordinating the event but I'm not really sure I would be the best person to do it since I have not been to one before.

If we dont have to move again, an im able to make it to the adelaide mini.
I could do a talk on the FPP player using the rasp pi.. or even on the beaglebone (if the code is finished in time).

an hopefully by then i have pixels running off the beaglebone as well.. so i could demo that.

June 13/14 is fine with me.

I dont have many topics to present as there is smarter people then me when it comes to the technical things.

If needed I can bring and set up the mega tree (if there is room).

I am happy to help out in any way possible but if the weekend of the 13/14th is the one I will be unavailable on the friday night for set up.

well my pixel savings dont have to get wasted an used for moving house.. (yes we signed a 2yo lease) :D
there is there is a good chance i can attend in june (further away means i can save more for the trip)

so whats the go.. is there a agenda yet? who's hosting it? who will run it?

I am not going to commit (due to work restraints) but would love to come, if I did June would be better due to longer to save/plan.

As this is only my second year at doing blinky, I would be interested in
1/ audio editing
2/ networking
3/ rasp pi
4/ vixen 3 tips / shortcuts

I would be interested in anything really, these are just a few that I still need to get a better handle on.

Also, as I would be coming from Perth a decent amount of notice, so I can book travel and accommodation would help :D

I am happy to present a session, for example, something on DIY and construction, soldering, electronics, etc.

This post is reserved in case Matt comes to our rescue and runs it again even though he lives in Darwin lol

Hahahaha, not going to happen sorry,

I checked the other day when cleaning out my humble garage in Darwin and realised I failed to provide ALL my lights during the sale of my complete setup.

I found 3 x 2801 pixels in my "possibly broken" draw. Alas I have no power or controllers to even test this, so with that in mind, my contribution to the mini, from interstate, beside possibly listening on a stream (if that happens) is nothing.

I do wish you guys all the best of luck with it, Really, last year, apart from a venue and some minor organising, it was the attendees that actually ran the mini.
