Hi guys

This is a simple question. I have a lot of network cables for computers laying around and would like to know if I can use them for connecting dmx boards from AV? I was told that they have something called cross wiring and therefore they are no good as Cat5 connection.

Thanks

Nick

Maybe post a nice clear close-up of both ends so we can see how they are wired.

You will be able to replace the connector on one end if you have the plugs and crimp tool.

If you put the two RJ-45 jack ends side by side in good lighting; if the color sequence is exactly the same going across, then the cables are "straight through" and will work for DMX.

If they don't match, they shouldn't be used as is. Crossover cables are not commonly used in networks that have hubs, switches and routers, so I doubt they are crossover.

But it is an easy check.
