Hi - been lurking and a member for a while now. Have a display, but nothing computerised. Would love to take it to the next level. Bought an arduino and pixel lights to experiment, but didn’t get there this year.

While an arduino is fun to play with and maybe animate a single prop it is a hard slog if you are not technical and almost impossible to scale into a full show. If you really want to go cheap and cheerful things like NodeMCUs will be easier but also eventually limiting.

Thank Keith. I’m reasonably technical and certainly handy with soldering iron and dmm, but at the price of the arduino I was interested in trying a single prop, as you say. I’ll check out NodeMCU too.

Something else to consider for cheap pixel control is the wireless ESPixelStick. I have 3 in my display now and they are work well as long as you use Multicast and have a decent signal strength..
