sweet no worries

I have asked my mate down there to see if he has anything we could move and borrow for the weekend.

I believe he has some opportunities in
Seaford, Vic
Frankston, Vic
Tyabb, Vic
Hallam, Vic

If not he has a farm with a 120m long shed if that is an option

I'll let you guys know if anything comes up

Sorry guys and gals.

Told by my mate down there that whats required there isn't really any location that would suite. Weirdly shaped office buildings not really suited for a function.

no probs, thanks for looking into it for us

Even though I won't be able to attend on the proposed dates, I would like to know a bit more about ESpixelsticks as I think I might have a use for them.
I get the basic idea, but I am a visual learner so a demo would help.

Does anyone have any contact's with the Scouts? They have hall's and would most likely hire them out to groups.

I do as we used local scout hall last year. Even at mate's rates we barely had enough money to cover these costs last year, plus it was a bit cold and not best suited for conference/class type setup.

The Frankston council has community space hire for $95 all day for local community and $210 for business. I was looking at Lyrebird 2 room. http://lyrebird.org.au/venuehire/

As I have not been able to find another venue that is suitable size or price, I think we should lock in this venue.
After discussing with other members where applicable, I think the best date for Melb Mini will be June 8th and 9th. This is the weekend after Syd and most likely Perth will be 15th 16th so there will be no overlaps.
@burnt I'll shoot you a PM.

Just noting that the Lyrebird community centre is a separate location (Carrum Downs) than the Frankston Library (Frankston).

That at least is 3 minutes closer to Melb cbd. 206km away from me. 160km away from Ballarat. :(

Yes, and I think I'd prefer Carrum Downs as its next to the shopping centre with plenty of parking and places to eat if required.
Plus library spaces at Frankston are only open from 10-4 where ideally we'd like to start a little earlier than that.
Sorry Al, I've tried to find places closer to CBD but they are just too pricey based on no. of attendees in recent history to cover.

Well, silver linings and all that ...? ;)

Still about a 2hr 1-way journey for you. My mum lives out your way, so I know what an arduous drive it is.

Q, pls, Are we looking for venues with accommodation, attached, possible, and l no its early days, but would there be a suggested number of rooms expected for the interstaters and country travellers as well. l no a lot of these sorts of places will offer free usage of there conference centres attached, and a lot have multiple room sizes on offer, if we are able to maybe offer a 10 room deal type Q when inquiring as a min, just a Q . l now a lot will day travel, its just a Q, don't shoot the messenger Pls. After attending Picton last year, the Conference room was offered at no charge to my knowledge, due to the amount of rooms let to some attending .

TBH I have not considered a hotel as a venue as accommodation has not really been required before.
Off the top of my head I can only think of around 4-5 at most distant members who may benefit from this arrangement (2 of which are from interstate) so I'm not sue that the majority of attendees will be too concerned by this. Happy to be proven wrong however, but i'm not getting a lot of feedback with venue selection from the VIC members, so I think time is getting the better of us and a venue needs to be locked in very soon.
We can't please everyone I understand but even the regular VIC members who attend minis in the past have not said a word in the 4 weeks since this thread was started...

The Picton deal last year was awesome - but the Motel operator was also member here to begin with. Getting that sort of arrangement in Melbourne closer to the city may be a lot more tricky. They can already sell their function centre + hotels rooms for weddings on the weekend etc. :(

Having said that, I'm looking at coming down. If it can be a weekend adjoining the Sydney weekend that would be great so I can do BNE > SYD > MEL > BNE in one trip :D
