Each of the two sets of colours requires a different polarity. There's no simple way to have all the LEDs light up steady. If you bypassed some of the circuitry you could have either set on, but not both. About the only other option is to run them from an AC transformer, but getting the voltage correct may be tricky. A small 24V AC transformer may work.
