This is only relevant for xmas lighting because I need to access my pi and falcon boards, otherwise is a general network problem
I have been having problems of late where my internet access would just stop, or so my router thought, and I need some technical input.
The basics
I have broadband, fibre to node and then copper for about 500m to our house.
I have a Vodaphone modem / router with 2 lan outputs and wifi
also recently a Orbi mesh system so I can get wifi up the shed.
I have the Orbi mesh turned to access point mode and the router has the wifi turned off.
Problem is that this works fine for a few hours or even a day, but then it will just get confused and when you go to access a web page, the vodaphone router will throw up a "you are not connected to the internet" Trouble is, it may be wrong. I am streaming at the time and no glitch! I go to another page and it pops up, but then it just progressively gets worse. This is all while I am connected via a lan input.
On the wifi side, it basically does the same.
I have a 3d printer in the shed and have a camera setup to watch it, and it is still streaming within the network fine. That is only relevent as an indicator of the network still working, as this also happens when the 3d printers are off.
Solution?
I have used my basic network knowledge to try and find anything that looks out of place, but alas I don't know where to go.
I am thinking it is something to do with an ip conflict on the router. Has anyone got any clue as to where to start?
If I turn the vodaphone router off then back on, it comes good for a while and the router has been replaced and still does it.
Also, I tried the setup without the orbi mesh and with only 1 ethernet plugged in, all works fine. As soon as I plug a second ethernet cable in, it will start playing up again.
Which is why I am thinking some kind of conflict.
