Newbie with plan in place and ready to pull the trigger. Would like suggestions!

Roofline LED strip is up and working!


Sadly, I'm out of time for more lights on the house as the weather is supposed to turn bad tonight, and I need to change my focus to sequencing more songs (I only have 6 full songs so far and I'm likely to get sick of them quickly).


However, I think I might get creative with what lights I have left in my yard somehow, maybe wrap them around my trees or embed short strips in my porch or garage lights.

Great job! Especially considering 3 weeks ago you hadn't even ordered anything,learned software or sequenced... Glad to see you pulled it off! Cant wait to see what you come up with next year with a whole year to plan and build. This is a year round hobby ;)

Yes, I have one LOR box to run the icicle lights on the house and lights in the yard. I'm only using half of the 16 outputs on it currently and I don't plan on adding much in the way of traditional lights going forward, so one LOR box should do for quite a while.


I had quite ambitious plans in place given the amount of time I gave myself to get it done, but I'm pretty happy with what I was able to accomplish.

Thanks, uncledan. I certainly didn't know the full extent of what I was getting myself into when I started but I can certainly now why folks give themselves a lot of lead time in order to get their shows up and running.


Without a doubt, this was only possible for me to pull this off because of the immense amount of help I got on these forums, chat, phone, remote, and email with some very generous folks like you, bluzervic, multicast, smartalec, and many others!


Thanks all for the help so far, and I can't wait to start plans for next season and to hopefully be able to pay it forward by sharing my experiences with other newbies who decide to start on similar projects!

I ordered a usb audio stick 2 weeks ago from Australia and it still hasn't turned up!
gotta love Australia post and living in the sticks!

Thanks for the compliment. I definitely have only begun to scratch the surface of what there is to know about this hobby, and what I did accomplish was only possible because of a lot of help and input from people who are much more experienced and smarter than me about this stuff. I'm excited to see what I can do with MUCH more time and some more experience under my belt!

In the USA we are pretty fortunate that almost anything we need to for hobbies is just a few days of shipping away. Sometimes we take that for granted, but I certainly won't take for granted the generosity of the people on these forums!


Hope your audio stick shows up soon, and I'll would love to see some of your lighting some time!

I know this is an older thread, but what type of LED strips did you use? I am looking to start my own project soon (for next year). Been reading a lot and want to make sure I buy all the right stuff.

Question to the original poster.... Where did you find the spreadsheet you used for your calculations.?I have seen similar ones posted but have not found the actual, downloadable file.

just trying to get my head around your spreadsheet - 'Distance (m)' is that a reference of distance AWAY from the power/controller source or the length of the LED display/strip/nodes line?

I like your process! Works for my logic!
