Painting Coro props.

Is yours the Bunnings coro Alec? I wonder if its a slightly different composition than their normal 3mm or Troy's 10mm?
I didn't have that type of effect on my coro, either 3mm Bunnings or 10mm Troys. I did hav a couple of hot spots where I got too close and it started to run, so I had to wipe the area and re-spray. Up close looks average but in the display noone would know

its the 8mm tunnelcore from bunnings
the plastic primer; an the white went down perfectly..
cant even scratch it off..
but spray the red an 5seconds it starts bubbling an brings the white up

It's weird.. times like this, i wish i got the custom prop made an printed..

currently trying a band combo on scrap pieces, to see if mixing the brands works

mine was just red on bare white coro straight from troy.

Silicon or something similar can cause issues like yours Alec

You could try wiping the prop down with wax and grease remover prior to painting could help

Thats My bad luck with the product, primer first, then rustolem- whitepaint, then rustolem - red ,

Same thing happened months ago as well

I had that happen a while ago spray painting some drain pipe for archery equipment. I grabbed first tin of primer I found in the cupboard and it went on fine... me thinking, primer is primer right? Ummm no. It was some metal style primer. The colour went on and bubbled just like that. Had to let it dry, sand it back and do it again with different primer. The way it handled was like putting water based paint on top of oil based paint.
I painted a few props with Rustoleum primer and then Rostoleum paint and all went ok. It was red too, that santa for the sleigh I did above.
I don't use prime much, I clean with some isopro, or sand it with a really high grit sandpaper and then bang the colour on.

its bubbling.. an lifting the white paint up as well

Out of curiosity, have you tried changing the order of the layers? primer, red and then white to see if things react the same way? I'm wondering if due to "global shortages" if maybe the propellent in the red is slightly different which reacts to the white. If the red off gasses maybe the white won't react to a dried red?

Just thoughts on testing is all.

I have tryed a couple of test pieces using squirts an rust-oleum
plastic primer -
then rust-oleum 2x white primer
and any squirts colour works.

I will try this other way after my sample pieces dry for 24hrs
eg.
plastic primer
squirts colour
red rust-oleum 2x primer

so far it seems that rust-oleum 2x white & rust-oleum 2x red,
Don't like each other.

as for cleaning the samples.. they get wipped on my clothing.

reason i apply the plastic primer first, is the blue tape kept ripping up the paint

I finely got in contact with Rust-oleum today.
there puzzled as to why there 2 products fail to bond together but not the brands.

They did say not to apply a primer on a primer unless you sand first,
and also to use a wax and grease remover to clean the surface.

Big Puzzle of horrors for me. lol

This was using the plastic primer first,
Then the Squirts paint brand.
Im realy happy with the way it went down.
Just have to do a clear coat now

resurrecting this old post of mine.

Just wanting to see how others have painted their singing trees, as in the boscoyo ones.

I'm guessing green of course, but wanted to see some pictures of what you've actually done, as I'm sure you would've done more than simply paint it totally green, i.e. the eyes and mouth areas, and perhaps the borders.

that bubbling will generally happens with oil on the surface. even oil from your fingers, there are produce used to remove and dry the oil from a surface although i wouldn't think you'll have much of a prop lift if you were to use them
