    Hi,
I'm starting from scratch and I see a number of solar powered LED light devices, which is nice but I could end up with a bunch of tiny solar panels all over the roof :) Is there are solar battery system that I can hook normal lights up to?

Don't waste your time with those toy solar lights.

In this hobby, the power bill will be the least of your concerns :D
The cost of a proper solar panel, charging, battery setup wouldn't be worth the expense.

I've modified solar light sets for use on a power supply, but only because the item was only available as solar.

It's fiddly, requires technical ability and is highly dependent on the actual item. Not really an option for the average light nut. :)
