Putting a place holder in for a potential weekend for the 2019 Melbourne Mini.
So far May 25-26 has not been claimed by any other states, however should you secure a venue and require this date for your state, please let me know, happy to move as required.

One of the biggest hurdles is finding a suitable venue, and I would love some assistance from the VIC crowd to find a centrally located venue that has meeting equipment (projector/screen and/or TVs, tables, chairs and area for displaying products.)

Central as in the centre of Victoria? That's Bendigo :D
i could help out with a Bendigo venue. Have even contemplated a Central Vic mini as there's now about 10 doing computerised displays around Bendigo and I'm the only 1 who has been to a Melb mini.

If there is enough interest for a separate Bendigo mini then I'm all for it and I'm more than happy for you to organise that.
If you want to start a separate thread we can link it in here, and I'll keep this as the main Melbourne Mini thread.

I'd be up for a Melbourne or Bendigo event. I'd prefer Bendigo, as Melb is a rat race! Even when you let the other crazy's drive around you. ;)

Also, if you have any ideas/suggestions for mini topics you'd like to see discussed, please let us know in this thread. Also let us know if you're able to present any topics.

just a thought I had after seeing some discussion on sketchup and xlights 3D, if enough interest and a suitablly competent presenter can do a sketchup presentation, how they use it, how they integrate it, is it beneficial.....

A quick bump of this thread for the VICs - if you have any leads on a venue please post in here or send me a PM ;)
Free is better but small cost can be covered by entry fee from attendees.
TIA

Heya @djgra79

How many people went last year I have a friend that has a few factories / offices that he might be able to lend you guys for a weekend.

Ill have to go to it however ;)

We had 17 ACL members last year plus a couple of +1's too.
Hoping for at least 20 this year, using Keith's possible presence as a draw-card :)

sweet no worries

I have asked my mate down there to see if he has anything we could move and borrow for the weekend.

I believe he has some opportunities in
Seaford, Vic
Frankston, Vic
Tyabb, Vic
Hallam, Vic

If not he has a farm with a 120m long shed if that is an option

I'll let you guys know if anything comes up

Topics that should get covered IMHO
-power and wiring. Wire sizes, fusing, voltage drop etc
-what universes and channels mean. Side topic of DMX start channels
-pixel basics with regard to how they work and how you control them
-channel configuring within Xlights, Falcon Player and pixel controllers. (LOR and Vixen could get covered too if anyone is using them)
-problem solving display elements. Data integrity, voltage drop and pixel configuration
-networking. What IP's connect to what. What does an IP and netmask mean when setting up
-Xlights initial setup from a blank canvas
-Configuring a F16, F48 and Pixlite 16

Possible additional topics
-Singing face setup in Xlights
-importing bought or downloaded sequences
-setting up Falcon player with channels, playlist and a schedule
-playing a video from Falcon player
-Xschedule features

Some examples of elements might be interesting. Be good to see how people have approached the buidling of common and unique elements used in their displays. Ie. from materials used, complexity levels in creation, or making use of commercially available templates, etc.

For me, anything to help me get my head around computing for power injection, and software demos for sequencing, that kind of stuff, but I think @AAH 's list covers this already.
