VU Meter help

Hi,

I've got a party coming up and thought I could put the 8 x 2m strips I have to some use and make them display as a VU meter moving to the music. I'm really not sure what I need to get this to work. Was hoping to perhaps run Pandora or spotify on the Rpi and stream the music. Is there a program I can install on the rpi that would monitor the music and then output to the strips via the ECG-D2.

I really don't know where to start to look for this so hopefully someone here knows.

xLights has a VU meter effect. Export xLights sequences onto the Raspberry Pi running Falcon player.

The OP mentioned streaming music so would need to do it in real time, not programmed.

I know you want to use your existing Pi but I also know that you can do it very easy on an arduino uno. I played around doing this a couple of years ago using sketches I originally found on Indestrucables.
